Map of the Latest Earthquakes

The USGS Latest Earthquakes Maps are pretty interesting. You really do not realize how much earthquake activity takes place on a daily basis until you've checked this page out. If you leave stay on this page you can actually watch as the earthquake data is updated worldwide.

The Website is DOWN

This is so funny. Why do I feel like I know this person?

This by far is the funniest damn video I have ever seen. So real it's scary. I frickin' love it!

HTC TouchFlo 3D Interface

Ahh, another cell phone post. I admit I have a gadget addiction.

Here's another vid featuring HTC's release of the TouchPro. I just spoke with a friend who purchased this phone 1/2 hour ago and the clarity was incredible. I'm talking on my HTC 8525 and had to turn down the volume because the TouchPro was so crisp and clear. I'm a fan of the QWERTY keypad so the TouchPro interests me. I also like the fact you can plug in a 16GB microcard! The Diamond, on the otherhand, is very sleekly designed. The difference is that it features a built-in 4GB! memory perfect for music lovers. Finally, my vote for the coolest feature is the weather component... check out the lightning and windshield wiper!

Cell Phone Popcorn?

Okay, so here is something to try this week at work. What you'll need... 4 friends with cell phones, some popcorn kernels, and 4 more phones to call the popcorn cell phones.

I think I'm going to have to repost a blog after I try this one in the office. Have fun!

3-D Gravity

It's Friday, late in the day so I really don't need much of a description for this blog post.

Drag the shoe around and add balloons to float it... I know, totally random. Happy Friday.

Are you Caffeinated?

Actually, click here to take the caffeine test, I fooled you. Once you've taken the test, then find out how much caffiene it would take to give you 'death-by-caffiene'.

Now seriously, if you can actually drink 153 cans of Red Bull you've got other problems.

Carbon-Free and Nuclear-Free: A Roadmap for U.S. Energy Policy

I thought the music segway into the solar energy part was humorous. Had to post this.

Military Web Maps

Surfing the web (since there is rarely 'real' surf around) this afternoon I came across an interesting project by Andrew Cooke which dynamically displays which countries spend the most money per year on the military. Size of the colored blobs is proportional to the total amount spent and the color shows what fraction of each country's GDP is used. It's very intuitive and all driven by XML technology, pulling data from the CIA Wold Fact Book.
Also check out another Flash XML-driven map online depicting the Iraq War Coalition casualties (updated only as of Oct. 2007). This one is a bit overwhelming knowing it's almost a year out of date. Much respect to our family members and all men and women overseas defending our country.

Intracoastal Cruise

Tonight we celebrated again another birthday. One of our dearest friends celebrated his 80th birthday on the water tonight. It was a surprise and we all enjoyed ourselves. Happy 80th Bill!

Tropical Storm BERTHA

Tropical Storm BERTHA

This is a bit deja' vu for me. I remember seeing the forecast track during the last 'Bertha' when I was attending school at UNCW back in 1996 . That was the hurricane year of Bertha which is remembered as a forerunner (July 12th) of the much more destructive Hurricane Fran which struck just two months later. Let's hope the current track for Bertha keeps her well offshore, but brings in much welcomed swell for those of us surfing on the East Coast.

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th from all of us.

Bang Goes The Michelin

Happy 4th of July! We cheated a little and started our fireworks early today... well not exactly. Becky was coming back from exercising this morning when she said she hear a 'pop' and the tire was flat -- seperated from the rear rim... Firestone style. Thank goodness this didn't happen on the interstate. We've had flat tire experiences before down here in FL and we always are suprised how nobody stops to help -- quite the opposite from our experiences living in North Carolina. Oh well, that's not important. The real message is that thank God for not letting this happen to her while she was on the interstate at 80mph but on a secondary road where she came to a stop in front of a church :)

(I have to add that Geico beat me there and had changed the tire - thanks to them. During so, the couple of people who were leaving the church did stop to ask if they could help. There are a few good ones left down here.)

Nica Pics

Slowly but surely I'm getting some of the pics from Nicaragua online for you guys to check out. I'm still missing this place and cannot wait to visit again. A former colleague of mine, Bill, flew in a few days after we left and based on the surf report, he's also scoring some perfect surf. More pics to come...
