Nicaragua Surf Trip

Time for a surf trip...

In June I'll be heading down to Nicaragua, Iguana Beach for a surf trip with the boys....

We're setting up camp at Casa Marisombra in Hacienda Iguana - home of one of the best surf spots in the country - Playa Colorado and Panga Drops.

A little added bonus we are excited about is the small golf course on the property where we'll likely be during breaks from the surf. This trip is long overdue and we've all been dieting, exercising and trying to fit in surfs so we can withstand days of surfing with each other.

Today Nicaragua was hit by a tropical storm, so hopefully things are cleaned up and mother nature gives us a break while we're visiting.

I know the guys are excited, and we all can't wait to enjoy ourselves and surf in offshore winds with perfect waves.

Hungry Tarpon

So heading back from Memorial Day weekend in the Keys we stopped off at the Hungry Tarpon in Islamorada to show a few of our out-of-town guests what tarpon look like.

For a couple of bucks you can purchase bait in a bucket to feed the tarpon. I remember one of our friends saying they didn't want to buy a bucket since their hands would smell the whole way home -- that decision was changed once they saw the fish jump out of the water to eat.

As I crouched on the dock to take this photo and others with my phone, I noticed that the fish could see the reflection and some jumped out of the water at times.

The Hungry Tarpon is one of our favorite 'stop-offs' when we visit the Keys. I definitely recommend it if you haven't been.

Relaxing Sunday Evening

Packed sandwiches and threw the beach chairs in the truck and enjoyed an evening of ham and cheeses and family company by the water.

Car Pool?

I'm pretty sure the +$4.00 a gallon gas isn't really bother many people down here in South Florida... (I know the reality is that it IS affecting us, but have a look at these two scenarios). On the left, southbound I-95. On the right an empty Tri-Rail commuter train station. By the looks of it you'd think the $6-7 round-trip train ticket is more expensive than gasoline.

I work with a government agency and know for a fact that out of the 300+ people, only 10-12 or so use the Tri-Rail commute. That's pitiful. So is the fact that the recycling bins are also dumped in the same trash can as regular trash when the cleaning staff come to clean the building...

Water Power

Why would we want to drill for oil? Why can we put a video feed on Mars, yet not find an alternate source of energy? This video proves to be very promising. Let's hope the patent isn't bought out and the guy doesn't disappear.

Microsoft Launch Event

Today I attended the Microsoft Heroes Happen event down in Ft. Lauderdale. For a free conference, these Microsoft events are worth every minute (and the $4 a gallon gas used to get there). The free software they handed out after the event was a bonus (Visual Studio 2008) and the networking component was also valuable.
