Rocky Mountain Visit

We spent the weekend out in Aspen working with one of our clients. Aspen, Vail, and Denver were beautiful as usual. The temperatures were much different than during December when we last visited. After a few Fat Tires and a dinner with friends at Jimmies (highly recommended if you're in Aspen) we headed back home to sunny warm Florida.

Visiting my backyard

It's been a few days since i've had the chance to enjoy our backyard. The bouganvilla and some of the palms needed some serious pruning. The seagrape was also growing over the side gate. The busier I get the more I feel as if I must turn some of these tasks over to a yard crew. That would be in addition to the lawn maintenance guy, pool guy, and the fertilizer guy (who will be canned soon since we are not big fans of someone spraying chemicals in our yard).
I recently read a post in Penelope Trunk's blog about this same topic. Although we are not rich, we can still make adjustments to our lives and have other people handle the daily things which keep us from being 100 percent productive in the business world and family environment.
All for now... I'm hitting the road to attend SERUG in Jacksonville, FL.

Lazy Weekend

Well, not much going on this weekend. I did manage to have to pay for a haircut today. Only the third time since leaving Maryland many years ago. The ol' trick of lining up the back of your head has always been a task I could ask my college roommates and now my wife, Becky to do. She was working today... So I broke down and paid to have it cut Everyone enjoys the relaxing shampoo and haircut experience... Or at least I do. The added bonus was having a very friendly conversation with a nice woman from Haiti. Island accents, especially Caribbean accents are one of my favorites. I should pay to get my haircut a little more often.

Lunch Break Idea

As I sat down for a quiet lunch I was rehashing the pondering idea of a new technology a collegue and I had discussed during a walk to the local Starbucks. The idea was to have the ability to stream live video from your cell phone camera. You could then invite friends and family to view what is going on live during your day. You could invite friends to join the video stream, create an online account and publish video feeds, etc. I sat for almost an hour thinking about how this type of idea would be a hit...
Well, after returning to the office I was greeted by my collegue who looked at me with a sigh. "Our idea" was already someone elses idea... look to the right-hand side of the blog and you'll see what I mean...
We still have some very detailed ideas on how to improve this technology... but will we beat the others who are now obviously thinking of the same thing?

Border Patrol

Don't jump off the train 'illegal'... the feds are doing their job. Most people think of the Mexican border when they hear of the border patrol but do not realize our coastal areas here in Florida are open and used frequently as an illegal entry point all the time. I watched last week as two guys were nabbed as they stepped off the train.
The irony of the whole photo is that across the street from the train station is the US naturalization office...

Here comes the Android...

iPhone'ers eat your hearts out - the ANDROID coming soon. This thing is super slick, with an open source library for application development. Google is handing out $10mil to developers creating some of the best applications.

I'll stand in line for this one. Let's just hope the price tag isn't in the $500's+.

Florida Oranges

On our way back from Tampa to West Palm we passed one of the large orange processing plants. There were dozens of these bucket tractor trailers filled with oranges. There must have been millions of oranges sitting there waiting to be turned into orange juice, among other things.

It is also March, so here in Florida the smell of the blooming orange trees is just unbelievable. We let the A/C blow out the windows so we could enjoy it.

Did I mention the mass road-kills of oranges all along the highway?

Time for a Golf Trip?

So I'm really thinking it's time for a golf weekend... How about in April? I have a SERUG conference Ripsin will be attending up in Jacksonville, Florida.

We could get in on Friday, April 11th and play Saturday and Sunday. I'm thinking we round up the gang (ie., The Famous Golfers in the video, The Brodowski's: UNCW Gang, or even Myrt) and make a 2-3 day weekend out of it. We did it a couple years ago and played a few fun courses with a golf package. One of the courses we enjoyed was Golf Club at South Hampton.

Let's try to get together and play!

Laguna Beach, CA - 1979

Okay, I was putting away some stuff tonight and this photo appeared. I had to laugh. It's me at 4 years old with my sister and Dad on the beach in Laguna Beach, CA. I usually have very vivid memories of being 2, 3, 4, 5...years old and where I travelled, but don't remember Laguna. I thought I had visited Cali once before when I was small, but now here's proof.

Check out the attention to the sand castle... "checking out the babes"... or maybe a nice backside wave coming in down the beach... hmmmm.
